Brookhaven Town Delivers 'Totes For Tots'

Town partners with Holtsville IRS center to provide gift bags to children entering foster care.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine announced the delivery of 100 “Totes for Tots” for children entering foster care, in a partnered effort with the Holtsville Internal Revenue Service Center.

The program is run by the Brookhaven Youth Bureau’s INTERFACE program. It donates new duffel bags, large backpacks and small suitcases, which are filled with coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals, a blanket, toothbrush and toothpaste.

The bags are distributed to children being moved to foster homes to help with the packing of their belongings, rather than having their possessions placed in bags, according to a release from the town.

“During one of the most difficult times in their young lives this program helps to give these children some dignity, and make their move a little less traumatic,” Supervisor Romaine stated in a release. “I want to thank the employees of the Holtsville IRS Service Center for partnering with us in this important program.”
