Brookhaven Town Hall to be Among New WiFi 'Hot Spots'

Internet service will be free to Optimum customers, restrictedly free for non-customers.

Brookhaven Town Hall is one of nine Town locations that were approved to get wireless Internet hot spots as part of a five-year contract to Cablevision approved at Tuesday's Town Board meeting.

The WiFi spots are free for residents who subscribe to the Optimum Online serivce, and are restrictedly free for non-customers by allotting three daily 10-minute increments a month or $5 a day.

Certain Brookhaven Town webpages will be available for free regardless of service tier.

“In this world of laptops, smart phones, and tablets, people need to be connected to the internet wherever they are for business and personal reasons," Supervisor Mark Lesko said. "I am glad to partner with Cablevision to bring WiFi to our residents and add not only to the convenience of doing business at Town facilities, but also give our residents a more enjoyable experience when they visit the Town.” 

Other locations in Brookhaven Town getting wireless internet connections include the Parks Administration Building in Centereach, Brookhaven Calabro Airport, Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center in Blue Point, Heritage Park in Mount Sinai, Mastic Pool and Skate Park, Rose Caracappa Recreation Center in Mount Sinai and West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook.
