Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: Feb. 17
A snapshot of some recent police activity in the town.
BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — The reports below are excerpts from Suffolk police's 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th precincts that comprise Brookhaven Town.
Criminal charges do not indicate a conviction.
- A clerk at Suffolk Wines and Liquor in Selden was beaten when two people made off with alcohol on Monday, police said. A man wearing all pink, including a baseball cap, sweat top, and pants, went inside the store, said police, adding that when he was confronted by the clerk, he punched him in the face, causing him to fall and bruise his hand. The robber then placed his hand inside his pants and threatened that he had a gun before being driven away on Middle Country Road by an accomplice, according to police. It's not clear if the man required medical attention.
- A man was attacked by about four male assailants and punched in the face on Middle Country Road in Coram just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, police said. The assailants took his wallet and cash before speeding away in a Lincoln Navigator, said police, adding that the man suffered "minor injuries" from the attack.
- A Moriches man kicked the door in of a Moriches home, punched a man, and then swiped the gold chain from his neck on Tuesday, police said. Terrell Trent, 27, was later arrested in Shirley and was charged with second-degree burglary, according to police. It was not immediately clear if the man he struck required medical attention.
- A 31-year-old Mastic man was charged with menacing a police officer after a traffic stop in Mastic Beach last Friday, police said. Cowan Gumbs, whose license was suspended, had been speeding in a 2008 Infiniti southbound on Van Buren Avenue and failed to maintain his lane of travel, blew a stoplight, and then resisted arrest, according to police. No further details were available.
- A Sayville man was caught in Brookhaven with a loaded gun that had a serial number removed last Friday, police said. Armad Johnson, 32, was pulled over in the westbound lane of Montauk Highway at about 11:45 p.m. when he was caught with the defaced Smith & Wesson, police said, adding that he was charged with second-and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
- A Lake Ronkonkoma woman was picked up by police on a fugitive warrant out of Tennessee last Friday, police said. Jennifer McGuigan, 36, had a warrant out for her arrest in the state because she had taken over $2,500 worth of property, according to police.

- Video games, electronics, and jewelry were stolen from a home on Cedar Drive in Gordon Heights at about 9:12 p.m. on Monday.
- The drive-through window of Subway in Holtsville was smashed and the cash register stolen sometime between 11 p.m. and 11:50 p.m on Monday.
- A resident of Summersweet Drive in Middle Island reported that someone slid open a glass door and stole jewelry and cash at about 8:15 a.m. on Monday.
- The window of a vacant home on Roberts Street in Mastic was pushed open and a motorbike, hole digger, and chain saw were stolen sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Monday.
- Someone entered the window of a garage bay door at a location on Route 112 in Medford and stole a laptop and vehicle jump box at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday.
