Assistance was called in from numerous area fire departments, including Holbrook, and the stubborn blaze burned for well over an hour in below-freezing temperatures before it was declared under control.
The Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate. The family’s dog perished in the fire, but no other injuries were reported. “Everyone got out safe,” the homeowner said.
