Here are the top four stories in Sachem today:
- A NYPD police horse was named after police officer killed in 9/11 attacks. Walter Weaver, 30, who was from Centereach, was a police officer who died trying to rescue people trapped in the 6th floor elevator of the World Trade Center's North Tower. Weaver was an animal lover and on Thursday his colleagues remembered him at a special dedication and horse naming ceremony in the Bronx. A police mounted unit was given his nickname of "Wally. " You can see photos from the event in the link. (Sachem Patch)
- A $1.2 million paving project on six roads in Farmingville and Holtsville is finished. "These roadways are now safer and smoother for buses, school staff, parents, students, pedestrians, bicyclists and all those who travel them," Superintendent Dan Losquadro said. Roads that were resurfaced in the project were Ann Lane, Brian Avenue, Frances Boulevard, Leonard Street, Washington Avenue North in Holtsville, and Waverly Avenue from County Road 16 to the Long Island Expressway North Service Road in Farmingville and Holtsville.
