From the Desk of ... Assemblywoman Ginny Fields

Introduces legislation to punish registrant of vehicle if he or she gives unlicensed or suspended driver use of that vehicle.

Assemblywoman Ginny Fields introduced legislation that makes it a punishable offense if an owner or registrant of a vehicle allows an unlicensed or suspended driver use of that vehicle.

The introduction of this legislation comes on the heels of several frightening events that have caused injuries and cost the lives of innocent individuals from across New York State at the hands of motorists driving without valid driver's licenses.

One such event that spurred this initiative is the untimely deaths of Long Island teens, Eugene Franjola (17) and Stephen Massina (16), who were killed in an accident caused by a driver with a suspended license.

"It is a horrible injustice to have knowingly allowed someone without a valid license to drive a car or truck, prematurely taking these young men away from their families. This is an egregious lapse of judgment that this piece of legislation aims to prevent," said Assemblywoman Fields.
