Hiawatha Students Shine At State Of The County Address
Second-grade students sing the Pledge of Allegiane before County Executive Steve Bellone's address.

Students from Kim Marshall’s second grade class at Hiawatha Elementary School got a rare treat this week, as they were tapped to perform the Pledge of Allegiance at this year’s Suffolk State of the County Address.
According to a release from the district, the students seized the opportunity through a connection with a student’s relative, and sang before a packed audience of political leaders and interested parties.

“The students were very excited to be part of this special evening,” Hiawatha Principal Dr. Anthony Mauro stated in the release. “As educators it allows us to bring some of the classroom concepts to life for our students.”
The students sang just prior to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s address at the William H. Rogers Legislature Building in Smithtown.
