New Businesses Coming to Town of Brookhaven

Town Planning Board discusses multiple locations for new companies.

A Hibachi restaurant, a credit union and an Italian ice store all made applications to the Town of Brookhaven last month to bring their businesses close to the Sachem area. 

Nishiki Hibachi & Sushi Japanese Restaurant was granted permission for 150 seat restaurant in the 4,900 square foot building that was formerly the KB Toy Store next to King Kullen in Independence Plaza located on the northwest corner of Middle Country Road and Boyle Road.

The Suffolk County Federal Credit Union proposed a new branch in Yaphank on the southwest corner of Sills Road and Old Town Road. They wish to construct a 40,00 square foot three story office building for the Bank and a five lane drive-through. The request was left on the decision calender as members of the Board want more information on a possible drainage issue with the proposed parking lot.

AOZ Inc., was granted permission to construct a 2,000 square foot commercial building to open a "Ralph's Famous Italian Ices" store on the vacant land that is located at the intersection of Middle Country Road and Rosemary Lane, which is located in Centereach.

"We hope to be open by late summer, if all goes according to plan with the Board," said Pat Armetta, the owner of the proposed "Ralph's" location.

The Board had a total of 11 items on the calender. Medford Gardens' proposal of a 59 lot subdivision using Pine Barrens credits was held over till the May 24 Board hearing. Farmingville's Clara Martins' proposal for a parking addition to the existing restaurants & to convert an existing residence to office use with parking, loading, residential screening and buffer variances was also closed until the next Board meeting.

Other items passed by the Board included Bellport's McKeon Rolling Door Co. Inc.'s proposal to construct a 2,876 storage mezzanine in an existing building; Port Jefferson's Sangwan Medical Building's proposal for a buffer and signage variance; a two lot land division proposal on the east side of Woodland Avenue and south of South Street in Manorville; construction of a 3,000 square foot maintenance building for Birchwood at Spring Lake in Middle Island; a modification to a site plan for Karachopan Building in Rocky Point and an extension of time to revegetate to Rolling Hills II in Coram.
