FARMINGVILLE, NY — The Town of Brookhaven’s annual Youth Bureau INTERFACE Thanksgiving Food Drive collected over 8,600 lbs of food and provided holiday meals for over 1,000 needy families, Supervisor Ed Romaine said.

The Town Youth Bureau’s INTERFACE Program and JVC Broadcasting hosted a food drive at Compare Foods in Patchogue, and P.J. Gelinas Junior High School in East Setauket, Sachem North and Sachem East High Schools helped to collect food, as well as grocery gift store donations over the Thanksgiving season.

Supervisor Romaine said “many families” throughout town are struggling to put food on the table, and the COVID-19 pandemic “has only made this situation worse.”

“The Youth Bureau’s Food Drive allows these families to enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones and reminds us all about the true meaning of the holiday season,” he added.

Councilman Michael Loguercio, who serves as liaison to the Youth Bureau, noted that the yearly food drive “gives families in need one less thing to worry about and allows them to enjoy Thanksgiving.”

He credited the Youth Bureau, volunteers, residents, and local businesses that contribute to the drive to make it happen year after year.

The INTERFACE Program is a partnership between neighbors, local businesses and the town, united in a common effort to provide help to Brookhaven’s less fortunate residents all year round, according to a news release. For more information, visit brookhavenny.gov or call (631) 451-8011.
