UPDATE: Suffolk Police ID Man Struck And Killed In Selden

He was one of two pedestrians and a total of three people killed in motor vehicle crashes on Friday, Suffolk police said.

UPDATE: Ireneusz Matuk, 66, of Selden, has been identified as the person killed in the motor vehicle crash in Selden on Friday night, police said. He was one of two people struck by cars and killed within about 15 minutes of each other. A second person was struck in Shirley.

UPDATE: Suffolk detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Selden — one of two fatal crashes involving pedestrians within about 15 minutes of each other in the county on Friday night, police said.

A man was running across Middle County Road, near Adirondack Drive, when he was struck by a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it “knocked him to the middle of the roadway” at about 6:35 p.m., police said. He was then struck by a westbound 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, according to police.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the county Medical Examiner’s office, and he has not yet been identified, police said.

Police did not release the name of the driver or any other further details.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the 6th Squad at 631-854-8652.

The man was one of three killed locally in about 12 hours on Friday. Two people died in crashes on William Floyd Parkway.

SELDEN, NY — A pedestrian was killed on Middle Country Road in Selden Friday night — one of two fatal crashes that took place within a half-hour of each other in Suffolk, police said.

Police were called to the scene at about 6:35 p.m. and part of the roadway was closed as the 6th Detective Squad investigated. The road has since been reopened.

It was the third fatal crash on Friday within about a half-day in Suffolk.

A pedestrian was killed on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley just before 7 p.m., police said.

Part of the roadway was closed at the southbound lane of the parkway at Roberts Road East while the 7th Detective Squad investigated.

A woman was killed just after 8 a.m. when her car veered off of the parkway and struck a truck, police said.

Police said the woman was driving a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage southbound on the parkway, near Dawn Drive, when it "left the roadway" and struck an unoccupied 2004 Dodge Ram that was parked on the shoulder of the road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her identity is being withheld pending the notification of her next of kin, police said.

Her Mitsubishi was impounded for a safety check, according to police.

Police declined to release any further details about the three crashes.
