The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Hello again, neighbors! It's Saturday in Sachem and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening locally. In this issue, you'll find:

  • Sachem High School East students experience Suffolk Culinary Arts Center.
  • Suffolk Police release video of Jeep sought in last month's fatal hit-and-run.
  • A person was struck by an LIRR train on Ronkonkoma line Thursday night.

But first, today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 41 low: 35.

Here are the top three stories today in Sachem:

  1. Sachem High School East students experienced Suffolk Culinary Arts Center. Students taking marketing, hospitality and culinary classes at the school got a behind-the-scenes look at operations. They first visited Suffolk's student-led bakery and lunch operation then headed to the lecture hall for a cooking demonstration by professor and Chef Satoko Matthews. Lastly, students headed into the kitchen "classroom" where teachers instructed Suffolk students.(Press Release Desk)
  2. Suffolk Police released video of a Jeep sought in last month's fatal hit-and-run. The driver of the jeep left the scene after hitting and killing 59-year-old Alan Lepre, who was walking home from work on Veterans Memorial Highway. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS. A cash reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. (Sachem Patch)
  3. A person was struck by an LIRR train on Ronkonkoma line Thursday night. The unauthorized person was struck in Central Islip around 8 p.m. and no other information was released. The line was suspended between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale in both directions. Service was restored at 8:30 p.m. (Sachem Patch)
