Police: Woman on Drugs Found Unresponsive in Car With 2-Year-Old Daughter Inside
The woman was arrested after the incident Saturday night in Medford, police say.

A 31-year-old Port Jefferson Station woman was arrested Saturday night after police found her passed out inside a parked car in Medford while her 2-year-old daughter was in the backseat, police said.
Police said Joan Beard was under the influence of drugs and she was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to police, Sixth Precinct officers Michael Becker and Michael Cafarella responded to an anonymous 911 call reporting that an unresponsive woman and a child were in a parked vehicle at the Gulf gas station, located at 3417 Route 112, at about 7:30 p.m.

When the officers arrived, police said they knocked on the car window and Beard, who was sitting in the driver seat, did not respond. Beard woke when the officers opened up the door, police said.
Beard’s daughter was unharmed.

Beard was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was due to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
Child Protective Services was noticed of the incident, police said. The child was released to family members.
