The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

Good day, people of Sachem! Andrew Tessler here with your Saturday copy of theSachem Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 62 low: 43.

Here are the top stories in Sachem today:

  1. 32-year-old Ronkonkoma man shot multiple times outside his home. Terry Long went outside to start his car, went inside, and when he came back outside was shot multiple times. Long was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made and police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS. (Sachem Patch)
  2. ICYMI: Suffolk DA's new BEAST Team to tackle animal cruelty, environmental crimes. The team will meet with animal victims and contribute to environmental projects throughout Long Island. BEAST team ADAs will collect all registry and protective orders relating to animals, coordinate periodic compliance checks, and prosecute resultant offenses. In environmental prosecutions, they will coordinate with the court and outside agencies to create a community service program focusing on beach clean-up, trail clean-up, and other environmentally restorative projects. Suffolk DA Ray Tierney said he is proud of the initiative, noting "animal abuse will not be tolerated, and anyone charged with environmental offenses will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. "We have one of the strongest legal advocates for animals and the environment on our team and he's going to ensure no case falls through the cracks," he added. (Sachem Patch)
  3. Mother's Day 2022 Gifts: Patch moms answer our questions on what to get them. As Mother's Day approaches quickly, don't wait until the last minute to get your mom a gift. We have asked Patch moms what their ideal gift would be, and many had different answers. Our favorite answer was "My toddler keeps me running around all the time and doesn't sleep, so any time I can have to take care of myself, anything to feel pampered even just for an hour — mani/pedi, hair blown out, restaurant gift card so I don't have to cook, or just an offer to watch him for one hour."
