Sachem North Sports Notebook

A weekly look at teams at Sachem High School North.

We'll be posting various notebooks for Sachem East and North in the coming weeks with as much information as we can. If you know of some interesting stats, injury updates or something to highlight, please email chris@patch.com.

Boys Soccer

This past week Sachem North's boys soccer team went 0-1-1. On Tuesday, Sachem fell 2-0 to the Patchogue-Medford Raiders on the road. After surrendering two first-half goals, the team could not recover, falling to 0-5 on the season in League I. With goalie Ryan Miller out for the year with a broken finger, Greg Hawson and Brian Armstrong shared time in this one, each with three saves. On Thursday, William Floyd traveled to Sachem. After two over time periods, the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Armstrong had six saves to move Sachem to 0-5-1 on the season. Next week, Sachem will take on Brentwood and Commack at home, and then travel to Longwood in search of their first win of the year.

Girls Soccer

Sachem North's girls soccer team won its two games this past week. On Monday, Sachem hosted Brentwood. After two first-half goals from Courtney Cohen and Ashlee Thompson, goalie Erin McNulty had 13 saves to propel Sachem to a 2-0 victory. Erica Magalhaes and Melissa Michels each added an assist. Sachem would move to 5-1 in League I.

On Wednesday, Sachem traveled to East Setauket to take on the Ward Melville Patriots. Tied heading into the second half, Sachem’s Leanna Curcio scored with 14 minutes left in the game to give the team their sixth win on the season. Emily Jones scored the first half goal; Thompson and Devin McMahon each added an assist. McNulty had 12 saves. Sachem now stands at 6-1. Next week they host Patchogue-Medford and William Floyd in hopes of continuing their great season.

Girls Volleyball

Sachem North’s girls volleyball team split their two matches this week. On Tuesday, Sachem fell three matches to none against Ward Melville, bringing their record to 3-4. On Thursday, Sachem hosted Patchogue-Medford. Sachem won three games to one by scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-23, to move to 4-4 on the season. Next week, Sachem will host William Floyd and travel to Connetquot as they continue their push for the playoffs.
