Suffolk Asked For CrowdStrike Cybersecurity; Implementation Unclear: Report

The request to the state came Sept. 9 - a day after the cyberattack, Newsday reported.

HAUPPAUGE, NYNew York state offered counties free access to cybersecurity services, including Crowdstrike Detection and Response, which has a joint security operations center with real-time monitoring and though Suffolk has requested the program, it's unclear if it has been implemented, Newsday reported.

The county requested the program, which is administered by the Department of Homeland Security, one day after the cyberattack on Sept. 8, the outlet reported.

Patch has reached out to County Executive Steve Bellone's office for comment.

In a statement to Newsday, Bellone's spokeswoman Marykate Guilfoyle said: “As a matter of best practice and with the responsibility to ensure the protection of the county's critical infrastructure, network security architecture must be safeguarded and remain confidential.”

County officials have previously stressed the importance of limiting the release of information about cybersecurity to hinder further intrusion.
