Voters Approve $9.76 Million Sachem Library Budget

Residents signed off on a new budget for the on Tuesday.
By a margin of 298-108, voters approved a $9.76 million budget for the library, which serves more than 83,000 residents across three townships.
Dennis Flavin, who ran unopposed, was re-elected to the library's Board of Trustees for a new five-year term.

Library Director Judith Willner thanked district residents for their continued support after the results came in.
"This budget assures the continuance of outstanding library service to the community," Willner said. "The Library Board set forth a budget that is modest, yet balances support of life-long learning and enrichment with maintenance and enhancement of our beautiful facility."

Turnout for the budget vote was up this year to 406 compared to 255 last year.
The approved budget for the 2012/13 fiscal year represents a 1.57 percent increase over the current $9.61 million budget. The tax levy increase is projected at 1.73 percent, which is below the state's new 2-percent cap.
