Bayport-Blue Point Schools Closed For 2 Days, No Coronavirus

While no cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the district, schools will close out of an abundance of caution for 2 days next week.

BAYPORT-BLUE POINT, NY — The Bayport-Blue Point school district announced on Saturday that schools will be shut down two days next week in response to the coronavirus concerns. According to a letter from Superintendent Timothy P. Hearney, while there no confirmed cases of the disease in the Bayport-Blue Point district, officials made the decision "out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community."

"On a daily basis, I have communications with the Suffolk County Department of Health, representatives from local government agencies, Suffolk County Superintendents, and the Bayport-Blue Point Administrative Team," Hearney stated. "To date, we have no known confirmed cases in our district."

Schools will be closed for students on Monday, March 16. Staff is to report to work for a Superintendent Conference Day to continue educational planning for the possibility of a long term school closure. For now, schools will now be open for elementary students on Friday, June 26.

Then on Tuesday, schools will be closed for both students and staff. The district will be using our first emergency snow day for this time meaning the district will now be open on Tuesday, May 26.

In addition, all games and scrimmages have been cancelled through April 3. For the time being, practice will remain on for all Bayport-Blue Point school athletes. The use of outdoor facilities by external organizations has been suspended, effective immediately, until further notice. Special Education annual reviews scheduled for Monday and Tuesday will be rescheduled. However, Morning My Kids and SCOPE aftercare will remain open for students at the elementary building if the building is open for students.
