Business Profile: The Center for Visual Arts in Blue Point

The Center for Visual Arts is a fine arts school that focuses on teaching drawing, painting, and sculpture. It is now in its14th year of offering classes for ages three years to adult, summer camps, group events such as girl and boy scouts, home school programs, and private lessons.

The Center for Visual Arts was established in 1998. The art center was located on Montauk Hwy in Blue Point until 2004. In early 2004 the art center was moved to its current location on Blue Point Avenue in Blue Point. The art center is located in the historic Madison House, the building just south of The Bayport-Blue Point Library.

Students of all ages who attend classes have a passion for art and need no prior formal training in the visual arts. Typically class size is up to 15 students. The environment is non-competitive and nurturing. There is a lesson planned for each class and students will be taught various drawing, painting and sculpting techniques.

All classes have limited seating so early registration is suggested.

Owner Maria Macedonio-Ritter has been painting for over 20 years. She is a New York State certified art teacher who has her Masters Degree from Stony Brook University. Macedonio-Ritter continued her studies at The Cape Cod School of Art, Massachusetts, Escola d’Arts Plastique I Disseny in Barcelona, and extensively at School of Visual Arts, New York. 

She is a full-time art teacher in the Connetquot Central School District and has guest lectured at Islip Art Museum, Five Towns College, Heckscher Museum of Art, East End Arts Council, and has served on the panel for The New York State  Decentralization Grant.

She recently curated Patchogue Arts Council’s Walking Arts Tour, an annual exhibition that includes over 40 Long Island artists and utilizes alternative art venues. Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times and The Suffolk Times. She has exhibited her work extensively on Long Island and resides in Blue Point, NY with her husband and daughter.
