Fire Reported At Vacant Home In Bohemia

No injuries were reported during the blaze on Sunday night.

BOHEMIA, NY - Firefighters battled a blaze at an abandoned home in Bohemia on Sunday night.

Suffolk Police and members of the Bohemia Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the vacant home on Johnson Avenue and Carlough Road at about 10:40 p.m.

Responding firefighters found the fire coming from the side of the building in the basement and the first floor.

The first floor behind the front door had already begun collapsing.

While battling the fire, crews encountered difficulty gaining access due to concrete barriers blocking access to the basement entrance.

After gaining access to the basement an aggressive attack was made and all visible fire was knocked down in the basement and on the first floor.

Members of the West Sayville, Sayville, Lakeland and Holbrook Fire Departments also responded and assisted in putting out the fire.

In addition, on Sunday the West Sayville Fire Department also responded to an overturned car that hit a pole by the golf course.

There was one occupant trapped and the jaws of life were needed to assist in them getting out. They were transported to the hospital for injuries by Sayville Community Ambulance.
