Holocaust Survivor Shares Firsthand Story With Bayport-Blue Point Students

Meir Usherovitz visited James Wilson Young Middle School, sharing his experiences in Nazi camps.

BAYPORT-BLUE POINT, NY — Students at James Wilson Young Middle School were given a rare opportunity to hear firsthand testimony from Holocaust survivor Meir Usherovitz, who visited the school to share his life story and experiences during one of history’s darkest periods.

Joined by his daughter, Usherovitz spoke about his early life and the changes he endured as a young person during the Holocaust. He detailed his time in Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz and Mauthausen, offering students a perspective on the realities faced by those imprisoned.

Students learned about Jewish communities in Europe before World War II and how those lives were disrupted as families were forced into ghettos and later deported to labor and concentration camps.
