House Fire on Kaywood Court

Bayport Fire Department responded to a fire in Bayport shortly after midnight Tuesday; one cat perishes in the fire.

An early morning fire on Kaywood Ct. in Bayport damaged one home but the family living in the house escaped without injury.

According to the , fire fighters responded to a call just after midnight on Tuesday. Upon arriving at the location, Chief Paul Bachek and Assistant Chief Bob Fleming confirmed a “working fire” at 8 Kaywood Ct. and that all occupants were safely out of the house.

Fire department officials reported that a majority of the fire was extinguished quickly and “extensive overhaul” took place. Two cats were rescued, one escaped unharmed and one perished in the fire. Town of Islip’s animal control was on hand to assist with the deceased cat.

Community Ambulance of Sayville responded and treated one resident of the house with smoke inhalation.

The Suffolk County arson squad was on the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
