Israel Takes Early Lead in Congressional Race

Suffolk County Democrats gathered Tuesday at the Marriott hotel in Islandia to socialize and watch election results being reported on large projection screens.

U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, D-Huntington, led throughout the evening by about 10 percentage points over Republican challenger John Gomez while Constitution Party candidate Anthony Tolda reached just 200 votes about 10:40 p.m. Israel is seeking his sixth term.

Results from state Senate, Assembly and congressional races moved across the screen, grabbing the attention of volunteers and campaign staff at the event.
