Library Offers Free Online Tutoring Program
Bayport- Blue Point Library brings learning to life with the introduction of Live-Brary research and learning database.
Kids and even adults can now receive study help online through the Local librarians introduced Live-Brary, the free online study help program, to the public last night in an informal presentation.
As part of it’s newly renovated website, the B-BP Library offers live expert help through Live-Brary, a program Suffolk County has been implementing in all public libraries throughout the year. The program is free for library patrons- just enter the barcode on your library card to enter.
Certified teachers are on standby to help students with homework from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Students from kindergarten through college are welcome to use the site and receive help from professionals specializing in every academic subject area and grade level.

Gail Silsbe, the children’s librarian, said she hopes parents and students will take advantage of all the free help they can get on Live-Brary.
“I think it’s a great resource for children and adults,” she said. “It helps with learning and the computer is a comfortable medium kids are used to."

The program offers a wide variety of learning techniques. Users can upload their own flashcards or choose from an existing list filled with cards for each subject. There is also a writing lab. A student can upload an essay and a live tutor will comment back with tips on how to improve the paper.
“There are also fun little games like hangman and crossword puzzles for kids to use as alternate ways of learning,” Silsbe said.
Prospective college students can take practice SAT and ACT tests, while adults can work on building their resume or study for a citizenship test.
Live-Brary also gives users access to free digital downloads of e-books, videos, audiobooks and music.
If you want to help your child with homework or if you have something you need to research, just hop on the library’s website and use the bountiful resources available for free.
Live-Brary can be accessed on the “Children’s Room” portion of the website under “Homework Help” or directly on the homepage.
