Man Arrested For Multiple Armed Robberies: Police
One of the robberies occurred at a Sayville store, police say.

A Mastic man arrested after trying to rob a Shirley business on Monday is also charged in three other armed robberies over the past week, including one in Sayville, police said.
According to police, 59-year-old Melvin Herring entered Battlegrounds Game Center, located at 401 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, on Monday around 10:15 a.m. displayed a handgun and attempted to rob an employee of money. Herring fled the location with no proceeds, police said.
Seventh Squad detectives located Herring in front of his home on Winters Drive in Mastic a short time later and arrested him, police said.

Herring was charged with first degree attempted robbery for the incident at Battlegrounds Game Center. He was also charged with three additional counts of first degree robbery for robbing Royal Beauty Supply in Sayville on Sept. 20, Game Stop in Shirley on Sept. 24 and 50 Percent Cards in East Patchogue on Sept. 26, police said.
Herring will be arraigned at later date.
