Man Jumps Out of Moving Car on Sunrise Highway: Police

BREAKING: It's unclear why the 34-year-old jumped out of the car Sunday afternoon, police say. His 9-year-old son was in the car.

BOHEMIA, NY – A 34-year-old Islip man was seriously injured after he jumped out of a moving car on Sunrise Highway Sunday afternoon, police said.

Christopher Ryan was a passenger in a 2009 Nissan Altima that was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway, between exits 50 and 49, in Bohemia at about 2:10 p.m. when for unknown reasons he jumped out of the moving vehicle, police said.

Ryan’s girlfriend, Alexandria Marston, 26, of Islip, was driving the Nissan and stopped the vehicle a short distance away. Another vehicle that was traveling behind the Nissan witnessed the incident and was able to stop and shielded Ryan from further injuries, police said.

Ryan transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by the Lakeland Fire Department and he is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Marston and Ryan's 9-year-old son, who was a passenger in the Nissan, were not injured, police said.
