Nautical Shop Taps Irene for Unique Sales Pitch

One Sayville retailer is embracing Hurricane Irene’s impending arrival this weekend with a unique sale and marketing strategy.

The issued an email this week alerting customers to its “Hurricane Sale” and offering 15 percent off when customers say: "Rock Me Like a Hurricane" at checkout.

The South Main Street retailer says its only offering the sale to email customers so the best bet is to get online and join its email list before heading into to shop this weekend.

“With Hurricane Irene on her way throwing a wrench in weekend plans here on Long Island, we're throwing a private sale this Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday,” states the email blast that notes the sale ends August 29.

And, as an added bonus, early bird shoppers can take an extra 5 percent off Friday if they will sing the code and name the band.

“We promise not to laugh or put it on Youtube,” notes the email.
