New Store Coming to Sayville's Main Street

Top This! Yogurt taking over space from Coming Home to Country.

Be on the lookout for a new eatery on Main Street in the next few months. When closes its doors at the end of March, it will be replaced by a new yogurt shop called Top This! Yogurt.

The new owners are a husband and wife team who reside in Bohemia. Lisa, who didn’t want her identity revealed just yet, currently works in Sayville. They are getting the keys to their new store on April 1 and hopefully, depending on the Board of Health, will be open for business between mid-May to early June. They will be revamping and remodeling the store during that time as well.

The concept is a little different than what you'd expect at the average yogurt shop. For starters, all the yogurt is self-serve. Patrons come in and grab a dish, pick their favorite flavors and the fun begins. According to Lisa, there will be eight different flavors, some which will rotate and others, like chocolate and vanilla, will remain staples. There will be nutritional information available, as well as fat free, sugar free and low-fat options.

Next the guests get to add their favorite topping, which run the gamut from fruits, syrups, candy and different cereals. You can add whatever you like, and your order is paid for by its weight, similar to a candy shop.

“Besides the yogurt, we will be offering fresh fruits smoothies, parfaits, oatmeal, coffee, water, health drinks and snack bars and more,” Lisa said. The eatery is designed to target the health conscious consumer as well as the youngsters. Lisa said the concept is something that is popular down south and recently some similar businesses have popped up in Nassau County.

“We will have tables and chairs and want to encourage patrons and children to sit down, relax and stay,” Lisa said. “Right now the kids on Main Street have nowhere to really go except for Starbucks. We feel this will offer them another option.”

Lisa also doesn’t feel the yogurt store will be competing with , or , all within a half mile radius, for business. “We have a place to sit down, we will have TVs, WiFi access and both parents and kids will want to come in and stay. I think there are plenty of knick-knack and clothing stores in town and this is a space that will be good for the kids,” she said.

Top This! Yogurt will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday operating hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Check Patch in the coming months for more coverage on the new location.
