Accident Friday morning at Bayport Avenue crossing leaves one man dead.
A man was killed Friday morning after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in Bayport, officials said.
The victim, believed to be an adult male, was not authorized to be on the tracks when he was hit by an eastbound train at the Bayport Avenue crossing around 9:15 a.m., LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto said.
"A preliminary MTA investigation indicated that the crossing gates at the Bayport Avenue crossing were operating as intended" at the time of the crash, Zambuto said.
