Planning Board to Consider 'Road Opening Permit' For Garfield Avenue Thursday
A public hearing related to the school district's planned maintenance facility will be held at Islip Town Hall.
The Town of Islip Planning Board will hold a public hearing Thursday night regarding an application by the Sayville School District seeking a permit to open up the northern end of Garfield Avenue in connection with its new maintenance in the area.
The $1.1 million project next to the train tracks is expected to be completed later this year. School officials have the cost to build the new facility is well below the price to rebuild at the site of the current Tyler Avenue facility. Opponents to the project have out frequently regarding concerns over traffic, effects on home values and environmental issues.
The Planning Board's agenda for Thursday lists the road opening public hearing as the first hearing on its calendar. It reads in part, "Applicant seeks preliminary approval with modification of land development regulations in connection with a road opening permit for Garfield Avenue."
