Readers' Feedback on Vacancies in Bayport & Blue Point

Readers offer insight on what new stores they'd like to see fill two empty storefronts.

Earlier this week Patch asked readers what business they would like to see move into the empty storefront at the Blue Point Commons small shopping center and also the former nail salon space on Middle Road in downtown Bayport.

A reader, Ms. Rikki from the Montessori Happy Hearts Preschool, located in the Commons shopping center, quickly offered an update of what's happening in that retail center, noting the storefronts for rent sign will be coming down soon.

"I am pleased to say that 'Beyond Philly' deli/hero shoppe should be opening their doors hopefully within the upcoming months! Also, the other vacant space next to us at 164 Montauk Hwy has just recently been redone for a supposed card/gift shoppe. So our small shopping center now has no vacant storefront available as we are also looking forward to a children's barber shoppe opening up next to Pur Salon in the upcoming months as well! We thank the community for all their local support in our small businesses," she wrote.

While that news bodes well, it seems readers were hoping for some different businesses to move in, with a bakery at the top of the list. Here is the unscientific vote tally for the Visions poll for the Blue Point Commons Center:

  • Bookstore   3 (18%)
  • Bakery   7 (43%)
  • Deli   0 (0%)
  • Yogurt shop   2 (12%)
  • Coffe shop   4 (25%)

Readers' feedback on what should move into the former nail salon location at intersection of Middle Road and Bayport Avenue was clearly in favor of a coffee shop.

There is ample parking behind the building, though many former nail clients typically parked along Middle Road. It's right next to a deli and a hair salon. And just west are an organic food market and bakery.

Another nail salon.   6 (13%)
Another hair stylist   0 (0%)
A chic clothing store  5 (11%)
A pet shop  2 (4%)
A coffee shop for us non-Starbucks fans  30 (69%)
