Sayville-Bayport Coronavirus Updates, Latest Numbers

SAYVILLE-BAYPORT, NY — Nearly two months since Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued the stay-at-home order for all New Yorkers, the coronavirus continues to affect daily life on Long Island.

As we enter May, many in the area are still testing positive new virus, known as COVID-19, and additional measures and closures continue to be announced as the coronavirus keeps impacting schools, business and more for local residents.

Cuomo's order all for nonessential workers to stay home, known as NY PAUSE, is set to expire May 15. The governor told regional represenatives to prepare to reopen that day, but with detailed plans to closely monitor any resurgence of the new coronavirus. However he also made it clear that reopening would only affect areas less seriously affected by the virus, with hard hit places continuing with the shut down.

All marinas, boatyards and marine manufacturers opened for personal last week, with strict social distancing and sanitization protocols to follow. Golf courses also re-opened with special guidelines. All 13 of Long Island's town supervisors met last week to discuss a plan for re-opening this summer.

Locally, numbers are continuing to increase, despite the fact that officials say we could potentially be past the plateau of the disease. As of Tuesday morning, there are 38,246 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Suffolk County with 10,954 cases in the Town of Islip. Here's how Sayville-Bayport and their neighboring communities are faring:

SCHOOLS

On Friday, the governor announced that all New York schools and colleges will remain closed through the end of the academic year.

BUSINESSES

HOSPITALS

Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue has updated its visitor policy and is "prepared with the appropriate patient care equipment and supplies necessary to treat all patients," according to its website.

At this time the hospital will no longer allow visitors in the facility. For Emergency Department patients, only one visitor per patient will be available in the waiting room only. For ambulatory surgery patients, only one visitor will be allowed to be called in at time of discharge. All visitors will continue to be screened.

In addition at the entry points of the hospital as well as at all of the outpatient locations, they will be are screening all patients for the coronavirus, flu and other infectious diseases.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled.

Cuomo signed an executive order to reopen marriage bureaus across the state and give clerks the authority to perform marriage ceremonies via video conferences.

Town of Islip officials announced that town offices on 655 Main Street (Town Hall), 401 Main Street (Town Hall West) as well as the offices in 40 Nassau Avenue and 50 Irish Lane (Brookwood Hall), will be closed to the general public. Constituent services can be reached by calling 631-224-5380. Senior Centers closed until further notice, however, essential Senior Citizen services will continue, including at home meal delivery and transportation to doctors appointments. Seniors who use Senior Centers for meals may request home delivery by calling 631-224-5340.

All programs, classes, concerts and the exhibit at the Islip Art Museum are canceled until further notice.
