Sayville Man Kicks In Apartment Door, Steals Running Pickup, Arrested With Ghost Gun: Police

Mother and teen son confronted the intruder, police say.

SAYVILLE, NY — A Sayville man was charged with multiple felonies after allegedly kicking in the door of an occupied apartment, stealing a pickup truck, and being found with a loaded ghost gun, Suffolk County police said.

The incident occurred on Friday around 4:25 p.m. at 15 Greeley Ave. in Sayville, where Douglas Davis forced entry into an apartment by kicking in the front door, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said he was confronted inside by a 38-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son, prompting a brief verbal argument before Davis fled the residence on foot northbound on Greeley Avenue. The two residents were not injured, police said.

Davis then observed an unoccupied 2010 Toyota Tacoma running in the driveway of 156 Greeley Ave., entered the vehicle and drove westbound on Sunrise Highway, police said. Fifth Precinct Patrol officers later located the vehicle on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst and placed Davis into custody, according to police.

During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded 9 mm ghost gun with an extended magazine from Davis’s possession, police said.

Fifth Squad detectives charged Davis, 24, of Sayville, with first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree grand larceny, and third-degree possession of stolen property, police said.

Police said Davis was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 7 at First District Court in Central Islip.
