Sayville Schools Celebrate Music Program With All-District Shows

All Sayville Schools Perform In All-District Strings and Chorus Nights

The Sayville Union-Free School District recently held its annual All-District Strings and All-District Chorus nights. All five Sayville schools participated in the events, which showcased for the Sayville community the District’s thriving music program.

The All-District Strings Night was held at Sayville Middle School on January 30, marking the 19th rendition of the event. The concert opened with the all-District Elementary Orchestra, a combined ensemble with students from Cherry Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and Sunrise Drive elementary schools. They performed “D Mississippi Hot Dog Scale” and “We Will Rock You” under the direction of Ms. Patricia Di Brico.

Next, the Sayville Middle School Orchestra, under the direction of Karen Savage, performed “Rustic Dance,” “The Reel Deal,” and “Rock the City.” The latter piece was accompanied by music teacher Fred Diekmann on the drums. The Sayville High School Orchestra followed with highlights from Moana, under the direction of Ari Kramer. The evening’s grand finale had the students from all five schools join together to perform “Country Jam” under the direction of Mr. Kramer.

Five days later, on February 4, the All-District Chorus Night was held at Sayville High School. The show began with all the district’s choir singers performing “Imagine” together. This was followed by the elementary schools taking the stage, with the Cherry Avenue Select Chorus presenting “Song of Peace,” Sunrise Drive’s Select Chorus singing “Snow, Snow, Snow,” and the Lincoln Singers performing “Cooroo, Cooroo.”

The Sayville Middle School Jazz Choir followed with “Stand By Me” before making way for the high school’s jazz choir’s rendition of “Auld Lang Syne.” The Sayville High School Chorale then performed “Jubilate Deo!” The grand finale brought all the students together once more to perform “Oye.”

“It was wonderful watching the progression of our music program—from elementary all the way through high school—all on stage together, performing with such joy, skill, and determination,” said Dr. Marc Ferris, superintendent of the Sayville School District. “Our music program is a point of pride here in our district and this is just one of the many examples showing why.”
