
May just may become a month honoring the valiant battle a Bayport seven-year-old is waging against a rare disorder.
According to a Newsday report Monday night local state lawmakers intend to approve a resolution declaring the month of May as ROHHAD Awareness Month.
It's in honor of Sylvan Avenue Elementary student Marisa Carney who was diagnosed with Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation and Autonomic Dysregulation. It is a rare and incurable disease.
Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino, in his first term, and Assemblyman Al Graf are expected to present the resolution on Tuesday.
According to Newsday, the resolution has support of 60 of the 150 Assembly members.
ROHHAD Fight Inc. was established to fund raise for research and to help other families affected by the disorder.
The group's big fundraising event is a a golf outing that will be held June 15 at West Sayville Golf Course, where Carney's father works as a pro golfer.
