Superstorm Sandy 'Zombie' House Demolished After 9 Years
An abandoned Blue Point house damaged by Superstorm Sandy was finally demolished Monday.

BLUE POINT, NY – A rundown "zombie house" in Blue Point has officially been demolished.
Councilman Neil Foley was joined by local residents on Monday for the demolition of an abandoned house located at 4 Grandview Drive. In October 2012, the house sustained heavy damage during Super Storm Sandy, and has been neglected since. According to a press release, the property was in violation of numerous Brookhaven Town building codes and the source of resident complaints through the years.
“The location of this house is right on the Great South Bay in a neighborhood where people take pride in their homes and property," said Foley. "The residents who live nearby were thrilled to see the town remove this eyesore and clean up the property."

The house was demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the town code. According to a press release, the cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The county reimburses the town and then they collect the money from the property owner.
"A blight is finally gone," said Foley, "and I will continue to work with our law department to crack down on property owners who allow houses like this one to have a negative impact on the community.”
