A proposal to build a CVS store in West Sayville on the northwest corner of Main Street and Tyler Avenue has undergone a significant re-design and is likely to come before the Islip Town Planning Commission within the next month.
At a public hearing last October local residents expressed various concerns with the project, from its architectural look to traffic and noise concerns. The original proposal featured a drive-though window at the north end of the building and was depicted as the typical CVS building seen in many hamlets.
Now the design has been revised to reflect a clapboard exterior, brick elements and decorative windows that reflect nearby historical residential structures on Main Street, according to town planning leaders.
The drive-through location has also been relocated closer to the south part of the parcel, further from the houses that are adjacent to the land that now houses The Truck Shop. Those residents had expressed concerns about idling vehicles, fumes and noise from customers waiting on the drive-through line.
The revamped project is expected to receive a planning commission recommendation within the next month. It will then go before the town board for site plan approval which then leads to building permits. A review of traffic by county planning officials is also likely needed.
If the process all goes without any big hitch, it’s expected that the building could break ground early next year, according to town planning officials.
