Library patrons will be provided with portable educational and entertaining programming
Scarsdale Public Library is excited to announce the arrival of Playaway View™, the latest innovation from Findaway World. Scarsdale Public Library will now offer library patrons Playaway View, the first portable all-in-one video player.
The pre-loaded video player offers libraries and their patrons access to award-winning programs from top children’s content providers such as PBS KIDS, National Geographic, Sesame Street and TumbleBooks, among others. With Playaway View, libraries can provide their patrons with portable educational and entertaining programming that was designed with libraries and kids in mind.
“Playaway View’s simple functionality, full LCD viewing screen, and expansive content selection make it a great addition to the Scarsdale Public Library,” said Executive Director, Elizabeth Bermel “With Playaway View, our patrons can enjoy highly acclaimed content in the palm of their hands.”
With over 100 titles available on Playaway View and more to come each month, each View is preloaded with multiple videos to entertain even the youngest patrons for hours at a time. A variety of popular television episodes, animated picture books, and curriculum-based learning is offered for pre-kindergarten through high school. The Scarsdale Public Library serves a central role in the cultural and intellectual life of the Scarsdale community and encourages the joy of reading, the exploration of ideas and the pursuit of lifelong learning for children and adults. The Library offers print and electronic books, magazine, music, films, audio books and online resources; provides accurate and timely information in person, by telephone and email; and in collaboration with other local organizations, gathers and preserves local history information; presents programs that appeal to all ages and interests; and sponsors a wide variety of cultural events. The sixth busiest library in Westchester County, circulating nearly 133 items per hour, it is also a destination for computer use. In 2011, the public access computers were used more than 32,000 times, and its WiFi network supported almost 20,000 sessions from users of laptops and other wireless devices. During the first half of the 2011-2012 fiscal year, Scarsdale residents downloaded over 2,500 e-books.
