Scarsdale Residents Kathy & Jimmy Brandt to be Honored March 2 at TIC White Plains Annual Gala

Temple Israel Center of White Plains is pleased to honor Kathy & Jimmy Brandt at the Annual Gala and Fundraiser, Saturday evening, March 2, 2013, at 8pm at TIC, 280 Old Mamaroneck Road, White Plains, NY. Diane and Gary Katz of White Plains are also being recognized as Young Leadership Honorees. The evening will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dessert and dancing.

Jimmy was a Vice President and TIC Board member for many years.  He was active in Development for the Building Project, which produced the main sanctuary and expanded and upgraded meeting and education spaces; helped in organizing TIC Dinner Dances; chaired the Religious School Board; and was a Simchat Torah Honoree. Kathy also chaired several Dinner Dances, served on the Temple Board and participated in numerous Temple programs, including a Chanukah concert featuring Shlomo Carelbach.  Kathy and Jimmy are particularly proud of their instrumental role in the building of TIC’s community Mikvah.  

Kathy and Jimmy are active outside of TIC as well.  Kathy received undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Michigan and has practiced for the last 24 years at Brandt, Steinberg & Lewis, LLP. When the children attended Scarsdale schools, Kathy held many leadership positions through the PTA, serving on the School Board Nominating Committee and still serving as a parent member for the Committee on Special Education.  Kathy is also currently involved in the Jewish Women’s Foundation.   

Jimmy is the Managing Partner of the New York office of Latham & Watkins, where he has practiced since 1985.  He is a member of the Board of the Alumni Association and Fund Development Council of Columbia College, a nominee to the Board of the New York Legal Assistance Group, and has been a member of the Board of the Scarsdale Little League.  Jimmy also received his law degree at the University of Michigan (where he met Kathy) and his undergraduate degree from Columbia College. 

Gary Katz is currently the Managing Partner of Downtown Capital Partners where he focuses on investment in distressed companies.   In addition to his professional work, Gary currently serves as co-chair of the Development Committee at Solomon Schechter School of Westchester as well as serving on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.  He is a Senior Vice President of the Hebrew Free Burial Association and a founder and Board President of the Community Association for Jewish At-Risk Cemeteries (CAJAC). Gary is also active in various committees of UJA-Federation of New York.   He is an involved Dad who can be seen participating weekly with his four children in the Shabbat afternoon Parshat Hashavua class at TIC.

Diane currently serves on both the Board of Trustees of Temple Israel Center as well as the synagogue’s Nursery School Board, which she chaired for three years.  She is also a member of the Educational Council, the Family Education committee and the newly formed Hesed committee.   Over the last ten years, Diane has served the TIC community in multiple capacities.  She founded and continues to co-chair the Nursery School Hesed Committee.  In the larger TIC community, she has served on the Centennial Committee, the Nominating Committee, Listening Campaign, the Shabbat Afternoon Program Committee as well as several search committees. Diane serves on the Westchester Program Service Cabinet of UJA-Federation of NY, is a regular volunteer at WJCS sponsored Kids’Kloset, and in Solomon Schechter School of Westchester’s PTO, spearheading efforts to promote greater Hesed within the school community.
