SCARSDALE (12 September 2014): Civil Air Patrol is the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. With squadrons based throughout the country and around the world, teen cadets and senior (adult) members offer non-combat support for the USAF. Specifically, our three missions include Aerospace Education for members and the general public, Cadet Programs (including leadership, character development, physical fitness, drill and ceremony, and other aspects), and Emergency Services (including both air and ground search and rescue missions, disaster relief and homeland security). are trained in and offer support in the non-combat missions of the USAF such as ground and aerial Search and Rescue, Homeland Security, DEA Enforcement and Border Patrol, as well military history, cadet programs and Aerospace Education. Our squadron covers lower Westchester County, with cadets from Pelham, New Rochelle, Yonkers, Bronxville, Scarsdale, Cortland Manor and the Bronx, as well as other neighboring areas. We meet every Friday evening from 1900 hours (7:00 pm) to 2130 hours (9:30 pm) at American Legion Post 979 in Eastchester/Scarsdale located at 40 Bell Rd. We have free on-site parking and are conveniently located off RT 22 (White Plains Road) by the Lord and Taylor Shopping Center and directly behind the Equinox gym.

We will be hosting an open house next Friday 19 September 2014 at 6pm, and welcome you to stay for our meeting which starts at 7pm. The open house gives you an opportunity to meet our senior members and cadets and get a better sense of our organization, as well as provide you with an unhurried and more detailed explanation of Civil Air Patrol and you can decide if CAP is right for your and/or your child, as we will also explain how parents can also get involved, should they choose to become a part of our organization (whether it be officially as a senior member or sponsor [chaperone], or unofficially as a participant in our newly created booster club, which helps us raise funds, organize and brainstorm activities for our cadets). Parents and family members can be as involved as much or as little as they’d like!

Cadets from age 12 to 18 are welcome to join, with some staying on as adult (senior) members beyond that. Our cadets get to experience orientation flights on single-engine aircraft, emergency services training, drill team and color guard opportunities, encampments at an Air National Guard base, and other cadet special activities throughout the country and even internationally.

Open houses do not come by often, so please do not let this opportunity pass you by!
