The Great Escape: Pure Salon

Head over to Scarsdale's Pure Salon in order to do a favor for yourself and the environment.

Are your layers limper than spaghetti? Are you showing more roots than a weeded garden? Head over to Scarsdale’s Pure Salon in order to do a favor for yourself and the environment – the hair stylists use eco-friendly products and color care, and they are friendly, knowledgeable and talented to boot.

Pure's warm yellow walls, set off by pumpkin-colored hanging paper lamps and earthy green trim, create an inviting, comforting atmosphere that makes you forget job woes or the sticky fingerprints your toddler recently smeared all your new spring sundress. And Scarsdale residents aren’t the only ones racing towards Pure to escape their mundane daily lives and looks – women in need of hair help are flocking from all over New York state.

“People are coming from all over – from Upstate New York or Long Island – when they hear that we're eco-friendly," said Pure stylist Greg Kroutil.

"We try to keep it as green as we can get," Kroutil continued. "We use organic hair color, hair products and cleaning supplies. We also have a ventilation system to keep the air fresh from chemicals – most salons don't have them. A lot of times, you'll walk into a salon and find a cloud of [chemical] smoke around the door

Owner Laura Valentine corroborated with Kroutil’s statements. "We try to make everything in the salon recyclable or organic– our toilet paper, cleaner and coffee cups. Also, our milk and sugar is organic. We painted our walls using Benjamin Moore's Natura paint, and we tried to not to use any real wood while decorating the salon,” Valentine said.
