2 Women Seriously Hurt, One Critically, In Separate Crashes In Brookhaven Town Over Holiday Weekend: Police

Detectives are continuing to investigate both crashes, a police spokesperson says.

SHIRLEY, NY — Two women were seriously hurt — one critically, on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley — in separate crashes within the span of a day over the holiday weekend, Suffolk police said.

In the first crash, a 49-year-old woman was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla southbound on Rocky Point Road when a 2025 Kia traveling eastbound on Middle Country Road struck the sedan at the intersection, spinning it around, until it struck a 2023 Chevrolet traveling northbound on Rocky Point Road.

The woman was taken with serious injuries to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said, adding that the driver of the Chevrolet, a 47-year-old man from Shoreham, and his two passengers were taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Kia, a 69-year-old woman from Middle Island, was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

It happened just before 1 p.m. in Middle Island on Sunday, according to police.

In the second crash at around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, a woman was driving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica eastbound on Flower Hill Drive when the SUV was struck by a southbound 2023 Jeep at the intersection with William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, according to police.

The woman, a 56-year-old from Shirley, was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk where she was admitted with critical injuries, police said, adding, the Jeep's driver, a 55-year-old from Shirley, was taken to the same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

All the vehicles involved in the crashes were impounded for safety checks.

Detectives are continuing to investigate both crashes, a police spokesperson said.
