Brentwood Man Drove Car With Bogus License Plate: PD

SHIRLEY, NY — A 37-year-old Brentwood man was charged with third-degree possession of a forged instrument after he was caught driving a sport ultility vehicle with a fake license plate in Shirley on Thursday, Suffolk police said.

Darcy Brewster was driving a grey 2002 Land Rover Discovery in the eastbound lane of Montauk Highway, near Barnes Road at about 12 p.m. when a 7th Precinct Patrol officer noticed "a paper Texas license plate" on the SUV, according to police. The officer checked with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the SUV was not properly registered in New York, police said, adding, that the officer began a traffic stop and then arrested Brewster.

Brewster was issued a Field Appearance Ticket and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
