MASTIC BEACH, NY — A 10-year-old boy was rescued from a rooftop in Mastic Beach by a group of first responders on Wednesday morning, Suffolk police said in a post to the department's Facebook.
He "got himself into a bit of a bind" and needed a helping hand from first responders, after venturing out onto the roof of a home, according to police.
Officers Ryan McNulty and Sean Roche joined the boy on the roof, police said. However, "due to the steep pitch of the roof and icy conditions, and an abundance of caution for the child's safety," the Mastic Beach Fire Department used an aerial ladder to help the three down to ground level, fire officials said on Facebook.

"Mastic Beach Ladder 1 responded, along with two fire police units, who closed off vehicle traffic on the roadway," the fire department said. "Our crews quickly positioned the apparatus, deployed the aerial ladder through numerous obstacles such as tree limbs and power lines, and reached the roof in no time."
"The child and two police officers were safely taken into the bucket of the ladder truck and lowered to the ground, where mother and child were reunited," officials said, adding, "Kudos to all personnel involved in performing this rescue."
