Homeless Man Flees Traffic Stop, Injuring Officer In Shirley: PD
The driver fled while the officer was holding onto the door, and he suffered shoulder and back injuries, police said.
SHIRLEY, NY — A homeless man injured a police officer in a traffic stop in Shirley on Saturday, Suffolk police said.
Alvin Ayala, 40, was pulled over while driving a 2014 Kia and the officer tried to arrest him for an outstanding vehicle and traffic warrant just before 2 p.m. on Surrey Circle, but he drove away, injuring the officer, police said.
Ayala "fled while the officer was holding onto the door," and the officer suffered "non-life-threatening shoulder and back injuries" and was treated at Stony Brook University Hospital, according to police.
