Man Dies After Being Struck By 3 Vehicles In Hit-And-Run: Police

A Mastic man was charged in the hit-and-run crash, police say.

MASTIC, NY — A Mastic man was charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian, who died after he was struck by 3 vehicles in North Patchogue early Saturday morning, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the crash took place on the eastbound lane of Sunrise Highway, west of Route 112 in North Patchogue, at 3 a.m. Luke Figat, 25, of Medford, was attempting to cross the eastbound lane when he was struck by the three vehicles, police said.

One of the vehicles fled the scene, police said.

An investigation by Fifth Squad and major case unit detectives led to the arrest of Eduardo Aponte, 29, of Mastic, who was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, police said.

Figat was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

The drivers who remained at the scene were not injured, police said.

Aponte was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
