• Brookhaven Officials Call On MTA To Address Traffic Woes In Mastic-Shirley (patch.com) — Traffic headaches in the Mastic-Shirley area have prompted Brookhaven officials to press the MTA and LIRR for a full engineering review of north-south crossings over the railroad tracks. They warn that limited crossings already snarl traffic and could worsen as new developments, including an Islamic Center in Shirley, move forward, and they're urging on-site visits during rush hours and busy beach weekends.
   

• Nor'Easter Claims Part Of Boardwalk Stairs Leading To Beach At Oceanfront Park On Long Island (patch.com) — Weekend nor'easter waves chewed away the lower section of the main boardwalk stairs leading from the Smith Point pavilion down to the beach in Shirley, leaving railings damaged and access disrupted. While the beach is already closed for bathing, county officials restricted incoming traffic during the storm and pointed visitors to alternative stairways at the campgrounds and toward the Fire Island wilderness area.
   

• Survey Shows Strong Support For Community Library (southshorepress.com) — Shirley residents who use the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library overwhelmingly rate it as a safe, welcoming, and valuable resource, and are asking for more programs and services. Survey feedback will shape the library's next five-year strategic plan, including expanded evening and weekend offerings, more space in popular programs, and improvements to parking, seating, and accessibility.
