Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash: Police
The person killed was hit by one vehicle, whose driver stopped, then hit by a second driver who fled the scene, police say.

MASTIC, NY — A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Mastic Saturday night, police said.
Suffolk County Police major case unit detectives said they are investigating the crash, which took place at 8:50 p.m. at the intersection of Herkimer Street and Carlton Street in Mastic when a man crossing Herkimer Street was struck by a southbound 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the Tahoe, Joseph Virga, 55, of Mastic, stopped the vehicle and called 911, police said.

A second vehicle, also traveling southbound on Herkimer Street, then struck the victim and fled the scene, police said.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

Detectives believe the second vehicle that struck the victim is a dark colored, four-door sedan that fled the scene, heading southbound on Mastic Road, police said.
