Pickup Truck Engulfed In Flames Doused In Shirley Driveway

Propane tanks attached to an adjacent camper were in danger of catching fire, Mastic Fire Department officials said.

SHIRLEY, NY — A pickup truck engulfed in flames in the driveway of a Shirley home was doused just in time before spreading to nearby propane tanks that were attached to a nearby camper on Tuesday night, Mastic Fire Department officials said.

The fire broke out at a home on Wellwood Drive at about 9:30 p.m., and when firefighters arrived, the truck was "fully involved" with "flames threatening a pair of propane tanks attached to an adjacent camper," the department stated on its Facebook page.

"Members quickly arrived and aggressively attacked the fire while also working to cool down the propane tanks," the post read. "The fire was brought under control in short order, however, the vehicle was severely damaged."
