Suffolk Man Charged With Animal Cruelty: SPCA

Sheldon Badgett, 49, was charged with a violation of Agriculture and Markets Law for leaving his dog tied outside, the SPCA said.

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — A Middle Island man was charged with animal cruelty on July 8 after an investigation determined he failed to provide his dog with food, water, and shelter, the Suffolk County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said on Monday.

Sheldon Badgett, 49, was charged with a violation of Agriculture and Markets Law after an investigation discovered he had left his dog outdoors on a 6-foot chain "attached to a piece of furniture," said Chief Roy Gross.

The dog was “unattended” and had no food or water for an extended period, and was found “lying in its own excrement,” according to Gross.
