William Floyd School District: WFSD Dedicates District Office Conference Rooms In Honor Of Robert J. Vecchio

At the December 14 Board of Education meeting, Robert J. Vecchio, president William Floyd Board of Education, completed his final meeting as a trustee for the William Floyd School District. Mr. Vecchio has accepted a position as the next executive director with the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association, representing and advocating for more than 100 Long Island school districts including William Floyd. Surrounded by family, friends, colleagues, former colleagues and residents, the district honored Mr. Vecchio by unveiling a plaque commemorating his 18 years of service and announced that the district office conference rooms, home to many Board of Education executive session meetings over the years, have been dedicated in his honor.

“We are pleased to honor Mr. Vecchio for his 18 years of faithful and dedicated service to the William Floyd school community,” said Kevin Coster, superintendent of schools, William Floyd School District. “His strong and steady leadership has helped the district achieve a renaissance as evidenced by an increasing graduation rate, new and innovative program offerings, state-of-the-art facilities and so much more. We wish him well in his new role with the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association and know that he will represent Long Island schools with the same dignity and passion he brought to William Floyd.” Mr. Coster added that he is excited to continue working with the Board of Education, as well as incoming trustee Kevin Meyer, to keep the district moving forward in a positive manner.

This special night included a video slideshow highlighting Mr. Vecchio’s 18-years of dedicated service, and performances by three student singing groups including the William Paca Middle School Jazz Choir, the William Floyd High School Acabellas and the William Floyd High School Soundsations. Additionally, the Board selected a new slate of officers to lead the Board beginning in the new year, unanimously appointing current vice president April Coppola as the new president, along with trustee Robert Guerriero as the new vice president. Kevin Meyer has been appointed as the newest trustee, effective January 1, 2022, to fill the seat that will be vacated by Mr. Vecchio.
